The little Android console that could can now play Sonic!
SEGA have just announced that the Ouya versions of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I and II are now available to purchase on Ouya. As with all Ouya games, the games come with free to download trials which contain the first stage for Episode I and the first two stages for Episode II.
Both games are priced at $6.99 each. No word on UK pricing at this time.
The following Sonic titles are currently on sale in the UK iOS app store. If you haven’t got them I’d grab them quick because this sale will more than likely only last for today:
Sonic the Hedgehog – now 69p
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 – now 69p
Sonic CD – now 69p
Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 – now 69p
Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 – now 69p
Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing – now 69p
North American PSN users have finally got their hands on Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 2 today and SEGA have released a launch trailer to mark the occasion. The rest of the world will have to wait until tomorrow to play the game but at least we have this video to whet our appetite:
Last night we participated in SSF1991’s SonicNews Show which livestreams from Sonic Paradox’s page every Sunday at 6pm Eastern time/11pm UK time. The show started an hour earlier than usual as I didn’t realise it was kicking off so late (thanks to SSF1991 for making arrangements that allowed us to do that!) and I really enjoyed having a chat with SSF1991 about last week’s Sonic and SEGA related news.
You can listen to a repeat of the entire show via this YouTube link and hear myself and SSF1991 chat about Summer of Sonic, the 3DS release of Sonic Labyrinth, the first reviews for Sonic 4 Episode 2 and much, much more:
Thanks once again to SSF1991 from Sonic Paradox for allowing me on the show! You can follow SSF on Twitter using @SSF1991 and remember to visit Sonic Paradox for some of the best fan-animations in the business!
We can finally see what Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 will look like! And what a surprising turn of events this is; the game now uses a fully 3D engine instead of using pre-rendered graphics for the foreground tiles and items like the previous game. Check it out:
Eagle-eyed Sonic fans will be intrigued to see Metal Sonic riding the rocket that Tails flies from Sonic the Fighters; nostalgia!
Also confirmed for the game is 2 player offline and online co-op play with Tails. This isn’t your standard Sonic 2 type co-op play either; Sonic and Tails have unique combination skills and attacks that give them a greater advantage than they do alone.
Takashi Iizuka, the current head of Sonic Team has revealed that Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 will launch in 2012. A specific date was not given.
In regards to the 2 year delay between episodes, Iizuka has said that “It was always the plan.” He continues, “We knew about the anniversary year, and Generations was planned way in advance. It was always our plan to release Episode 2 after Generations.”
Iizuka has also confirmed that a 3rd episode is currently not on the table. “We can’t say if there’s going to be Episode 3 or not.”
